The Resurrection!

This historic event, that sees thousands of bikers descend to Southends seafront returns this Easter Bank Holiday Monday. We have tons going on all day, and we would be delighted if you joined us!

April 22 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm in Southend-on-Sea

Tony Lovegrove

Founder of The Oilheads and vice chairman of The Southend Shakedown Resurrection Committee says

Provisions are in place to provide parking for 3500 bikes – which we are really thrilled about. We would like to thank Southend Borough Council for their support and Devitt Insurance for their financial backing allowing us to bring this event back to Southend’s glorious Victorian seaside venue. A biking event brought to the community by bikers.

THE JOURNEY TO BRING THE SOUTHEND SHAKEDOWN BACK!

The Oilheads Motorcycle Group

Founded in 2016 by Tony Lovegrove and Paul Oliver (‘Ollie’), driven by their love and passion for motorcycling and the thrill of riding all types of wheels of steel from adventure bikes, Street fighters, to Trikes, and Classics – decided enough was enough! They wanted the event back.  Oilheads member Adam Ball called the group together to discuss a plan of action and The Southend Shakedown Resurrection Committee was born.

Adam Ball

Oilheads member and Chairman of The Southend Shakedown Committee adds

It’s not been without it’s sweat and tears! It’s 10 months in the making and we are doing this all in our spare time – it’s a not for profit event – but we are passionate about bringing this historic event back to Southend – let’s hope it’s the first of many

History of Southend Shakedown

The Southend Shakedown was originally the brainchild of the late Roger Glover aka Southend Roger, Ronald Miles and Mark Wilsmore from the Ace Café.  The first event was marshalled by The Rayleigh Riders Club. Ronald Miles was also on the planning team and we are thrilled that he will be joining us on the day!

Ronald says “Back in 1998 was the year the event launched and we were really pleased that around 300 bikes turned up! Then it started to grow- at one point the event was so huge that we saw around 10,000 bikers on the seafront!”

Ronald continues: “The first charity that we supported was Havens Childrens Hospice. If it wasn’t for the support of the Ace Café’s Mark Wilsmore – there would never have been an event. I would like to wish The Southend Shakedown Resurrection Committee all the very best for their first event!”
